The 2019 Ford Flex is a family vehicle with loads of space (seating for seven!), plenty of horsepower (287 on the base engine and 365 on the EcoBoost), and impressive standard technology. There are three trim levels - SE, SEL, and Limited - all uniquely equipped and priced to suit a variety of budgets. The SE comes with SYNC technology, a rear-view camera, cloth seats, and a reverse sensing system. The SEL gets additional features, including push-button start, heated front seats, and upgraded wheels. As the top trim, the Limited is equipped with perforated leather-trimmed seats, premium 19-inch wheels, the Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert, a power liftgate, power-adjustable pedals with memory feature, and remote start.

The standard powerplant on all trims is a 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6, but there's an optional upgrade for the 365 hp twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 on the Limited trim only. Limited models equipped with the EcoBoost also receive Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (optional on the SEL), while the standard models have front-wheel drive. The EPA rates the Flex's fuel economy at 16 city/23 highway, with the AWD versions dropping just one mpg on the highway efficiency.

Safety & Technology

A rear-view camera is standard, as is the multi-mode AdvanceTrac system with Roll Stability Control, which appropriately applies braking and modifies engine power to maintain control of the individual wheels. Active park assist is available to help you steer the car into parking spaces. Heated side mirrors come standard to keep the frost and mist from obscuring the driver's view; every trim also gets a rear-view camera. The Safety Canopy airbag system protects the occupants of all three rows.  Ford's touchscreen SYNC system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and comes standard on all trims. This technology is the center of all of your communication, entertainment, and information, as well as serving as your emergency communicator: the system will contact first responders when it detects that there's been a significant collision. The cabin of the Flex is set up with USB ports as well as power outlets to keep everyone charged up.

Utility and Passenger

Comfort When the middle and back rows are folded flat, the Flex's cargo capacity peaks to 83.2 cubic feet. In lieu of the second-row bench seat, there's an option for a pair of power-assisted bucket seats separated by a handy pass-through space for reaching the back row; a PowerFold third-row seat is available on the Limited trim. The Limited trim can be equipped with luxuries for winter comfort (heated and cooled front-row power seats and a heated steering wheel). The Flex offers great versatility for carrying cargo, even with a few passengers, especially when it's equipped with roof rails and crossbars; a roof-mounted cargo box is also available as a factory accessory. With the available trailer tow package, the Flex can tow up to 4,500 pounds.
