Ford has redesigned the Transit Connect for the 2019 model year with some specific goals in mind. Besides giving it a sportier and more contemporary look, the automaker wanted the vehicle to suit personal use better, so it made improvements for a more comfortable ride, highlighted by better upholstery and an upgraded suspension. There are also structural reinforcements to the frame, and some additional active safety equipment.

Ford sums it up by calling the Transit Connect "the minivan that has everything it needs and nothing it doesn't." But it's so much more than a minivan, especially for business use. There are three trim levels (XL, XLT, and Titanium) available, with two wheelbase choices, two engine options (a 2.0-liter Flex-Fuel and EcoBlue 1.5-liter diesel), in either a Passenger and Cargo wagon style. The only available transmission is an eight-speed automatic, and automatic start/stop technology, which turns off the engine to save fuel instead of idling, is standard.

Utility & Practicality

You can count on the 2019 Transit Connect for toughness, as it meets Ford's strict standards for Light Commercial Vehicle Durability. With all of its configuration options, two styles/wheelbase lengths, and interior versatility, it can carry as many as seven passengers or a lot of stuff. People with mobility limitations will appreciate the low height (2 feet) of the load floor and the easy-access seating. A rear liftgate comes standard, but there's an upgrade available for rear doors that open 180 degrees.

Safety & Technology

With its straight-sided van form, the Transit Connect benefits from its new safety feature, side-wind stabilization, which keeps control during sudden gusts by automatically braking on the side where it's needed. Traction control and pre-collision alert with pedestrian detection come standard; available upgrades for safety are a lane keeping system, active park assist, and a blind-spot monitor.

There's plenty of connectivity technology in the Transit Connect, which is especially crucial for business use. It has two USB ports, a wireless charging station, and a Wi-Fi hotspot that can support ten devices. Ford's touch-screen SYNC 3 system is available to integrate information, audio, and smartphone use in one place.
